Seals by day, selkies shed their pelts and dance on the shore at night in human form. If a passing fisherman steals a selkie’s pelt she has to live with him and be his wife, but woe betide the fisherman when she finds it again.

The most beautiful woman was dancing there
And the moonlight shone on her selkie hair

I watched them dance round and round
Their pelts were scattered on the ground
She stole my heart with a glance

We settled on that rocky beach
